Best of British Bridal Gowns

Angela Jane talks to Attire Bridal about her latest collection

What inspired your love of bridal design and why did you decide to launch your own bridal label?

I've loved being creative with beautiful things since childhood. After studying fashion design and working with the bridal industry, I designed and made my own wedding gown and absolutely loved every minute of it, which inspired me to launch my own label. Initially working on a one to one level with bespoke brides, it soon led to the launch of my ready-to-wear collections.

How would you describe your signature style and how has this evolved since your first started designing your own bridal gowns?

My designs are always traditional and elegant with a modern twist. Throughout the years the label has evolved from one-off bespoke pieces to an annual ready to wear collection to wholesale trade.

Where are the gowns designed, made and finished, and how integral is this to the identity of the brand?

Every gown is designed and handmade in our Nottinghamshire-based studio here in England. We're extremely proud to be a British brand through and through and feel extremely passionate about British design and manufacture.

What inspired the latest bridal collection? Which fabrics and embellishments are used within the designs and why?

The latest collection has an ethereal feel and takes inspiration from a variety of sources including my brides - listening to their ideas and preferences together with my own inspirations which - for this collection - have been taken from springtime woodland walks. Delicate, floral laces have been used with soft flowing skirts in chiffon, tulle and organza to create movement.

Which gown from the collection do you predict will be the best-seller and why?

My best-seller will probably be a gown called Megan because it's such a flattering silhouette. It's effortlessly stylish and feminine to appeal to all brides.

How many stockists do you have, and how do you decide which retailers you would like to partner?

We've two stockists at the moment with quite a few in the pipeline. We partner boutiques with a strong passion for a British-made label and who appreciate good quality craftmanship and also have a higher end price point.

How do you support your stockists?

We offer our stockists support wherever we can. We're always just a phone call away and are pleased to help with any queries they might have. We offer 12-week lead times, incentives and encourage a good business relationship. We can also offer our stockists a bespoke service or our 'dream dress' service.

Will you be showing the collection at any UK bridal trade shows?

We're exhibiting at the Harrogate Bridal Show again in September and we're keen to try White Gallery.

What do you enjoy most about working in the Bridal industry?

I love the creative side the most, and being involved in a bride's most important day is an honour. It can be very stressful, but worth every minute when you see the big smile on your bride's face.

What are the main challenges you face in today's competitive market?

The challenges we face today are the ever-increasing influx of cheap, poor quality imports that can be purchased over the internet and encourage the use of cheap labour in overseas sweat shops.

How would you like to see the brand grow over the coming years?

I'd love to see the Angela Jane brand grow in popularity with more stockists from the UK and abroad. To be recognised as a true 100 per cent British brand that's renowned for exceptional craftsmanship, great attention to detail and a high-quality finish would be the ultimate accolade.
